2005 Hobbs Shiraz

2005 Hobbs
Shiraz $129.99
Greg and Allison Hobbs’
vineyards are situated in the
Ranges of the Barossa Valley in South Australia. Hobbs Wines takes grapes
from its family-held vineyard to produce wines that make a statement about
excellence. Production is small, with largest production of any one wine
about 300 cases. The grapevines for this wine were planted in 1906 are
carefully nurtured and crafted to make wines with exceptional character.
Chris
Ringland is their consulting winemaker. Wine aficionados will know Chris as
the man behind his own highly prestigious label, Chris Ringland Shiraz. He
is a superb winemaker with great skill, an outstanding palate and a highly
discerning nose. Chris has been their friend, next-door neighbor (
Hobbs
vineyards are contiguous with Chris Ringland’s Three Rivers vineyards)
and consultant winemaker since day one. The culmination of Chris's skill,
is making Hobbs one of the Premium labels of Australia.
If you've always wanted to try Chris Ringland's own wine, but didn't have
an extra $600 laying around, this is the wine to buy. Wine Advocate
awarded the last two vintages of Hobbs Shiraz 97 points, and the typically
lower scoring (for aussie wines anyway) Wine Spectator, just gave the 2005
Hobbs vintage 96 points, and we expect Wine Advocates score to be
significantly higher. Limited!
"This grabs
you by the lapel and makes a big statement, offering a cascade of rich,
meaty blackberry, licorice, pepper and cardamom aromas and flavors that
eventually nestle harmoniously into a plush, complex finish. It has
tremendous presence and remains graceful despite its massive size." Drink
now through 2020
